The European Council for an Energy Efficient Economy, ECEEE, is an independent organisation registered in Sweden with a secretariat in Stockholm. From its inception in 1993 until 1998, the eceee had provisional status. In 1998, the eceee obtained the status of a non-profit association governed by Norwegian law. In 2005, it became a Swedish non-profit association.
The eceee promotes energy efficiency literacy and implementation in society by providing evidence-based knowledge, analysis and information to its members and all interested organisations and individuals.
eceee maintains a website on energy efficiency and offers a news service and detailed information on European energy directives, in the formulation of which it actively participates by responding to public consultations, organising events and discussion forums, and producing analyses and reports on key topics in European Union energy policy. The eceee frequently collaborates with the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Presidency of the Council of the EU, drawing on the expertise and impartiality of its network of members.
The eceee organises conferences and workshops, and actively participates in discussions on European energy efficiency policies. One of the main events is the eceee Summer Study, which has been held every two years in June since 1993. Lasting five days, it brings together around 400 participants from government bodies, industry and energy services, research institutions and civil society organisations interested in promoting energy efficiency. Since 2012, the eceee has also organised an event dedicated to energy efficiency and decarbonisation in the industrial sector, the eceee Zero Carbon Industry.
The eceee has hundreds of collective and individual members. Member organisations include government agencies, industry, research institutions and civil society organisations (e.g. NGOs). The eceee is governed by a Board of Directors (BoD), elected at the General Assembly, composed of a maximum of 12 members including national energy agencies, consulting firms and research institutions from across Europe.
